When the day is done
After the boots come off and I've had at least 30 minutes to sit down, my mindset changes completely. Most days I'm able to just relax, but today was a particularly challenging day for me. With the influx of new "pilgrims", the dynamic changed. There were people on cellphones chatting away, walking poles swinging recklessly and some of the unspoken pilgrim rules flagrantly violated. Wishes of a buen camino, which are always shared to fellow walkers, were sometimes ignored, not issued, and on two occasions mocked . Truth be told, my patience was tested. After several full days before this, and only 65k to go, our goal was to walk somewhere in the 30s to have an easy day tomorrow to Santiago. Due to full lodging, we had to log 46. We haven't had to face this challenge before and have never reserved ahead. Part of the beauty of the camino, to me, has been the ability to stay and stop in places that seem appealing. But, I have to remember that the journey (in both length and spirit) is different for everyone. I will continue to wish all a buen camino as we journey to Santiago in the morning.
