Fourth of July with my peeps
I know you are tired of hearing this but, I had such a good time tonight. It was just the girls in the band this time and we laughed our bums off. These women make the tears roll down my face.
We sang at an art gallery tonight. It was raining to beat hell. We sang inside. The manager of it, thought of putting a mic in front of us and putting an amp outside. The challenge with this situation is that the gallery....constellation gallery on Congress St in Portland Maine. If you google this, you will see how it sits back and is in a plaza. The sound just reverberated from this place. Since it was raining so hard, our music was the only music on the street. We sent Julie our percussionist out to listen. She came back with huge eyes and said omg it is so loud. I said too loud? She said: put it this way, you could go across the street to the CVS, go into the bathroom, turn on the hand drying machine, and vacuum while wearing earplugs and .............it would still be too loud......we were hysterical.
It is the 4th of July and the weather is really bad. Tomorrow we are singing at the Crystal Springs farmers market. And......it appears as this will be happening in the pouring rain.
It's ok we are tough and hopefully wrapped well. I have big rain boots. I have a raincoat and I can put on a hat.
It doesn't matter. We will have a good time and laugh like idiots. It's what we do. It is our modus operandi.
I am so blessed.
I am sure that this blip may be boring to some but it makes me proud. There are times when our flag can take my breath away. A large American flag flapping in the breeze it the most moving thing I know. My favorite is to see the US flag flying in another country.
There is just something about it. I know as Americans we are perceived as self absorbed and well....irritating. There are some that are. Hopefully when I travel next spring and really leave this country, I will not become the "ugly American ". Meanwhile I will still salute the flag with my right hand overt heart and say the pledge of allegiance. Many of us in school in the 70s and 80s we all said it every morning. I still can recite it.
So happy birthday to my country. And to the Stars and Stripes.
Ok night now.....and g'day to down under.....
