Relief

Not only did we get a much better night's sleep courtesy of OBD cluster feeding for most of last night and a new feeding position before settling well but much much more importantly, we had some great news from the ENT guru at OBDs follow up appointment this morning. Her vocal cords are moving normally. I repeat, her vocal cords are moving normally. The relief that washed over me as he said this was immense - I think I haven't fully processed the events of the last 2 weeks or allowed myself to dwell on the what ifs but to know that she's fine is an unbelievable feeling. She looked so teeny as he put the camera down her throat (the fella had to hold her as I was too emotional) and the thought of her needing an op or more support was too horrible to contemplate so when he said everything was fine I just cried. In fact writing this is making me cry again. We have to go for a follow up in 3 months and keep an extra eye on her when we gets a cold but it looks as if the problem has just rectified itself - likely that the part of the brain that controls her vocal cords just needed a bit of time to kick in sending proper signals (am sure there's a far better explanation than that but it works for me).

We all felt a bit exhausted back home so had a family snooze before a visit from a good friend and his year old son. They went through it last year as his son had meningitis shortly after birth so we swapped NICU stories and agreed how amazing the NHS is. He's a gorgeous happy and healthy little boy now - thank goodness.

Later the fella and I restarted our Friday coffee tradition but this time with OBD in tow before another trip to M&S to pick up some tea. Which the fella had to eat one handed as he was cuddling OBD. More cluster feeding to come....

But we can handle it - our daughter is happy, healthy and beautiful.
