Relaxing

Lazing around in the morning in preparation for the pre-school sports day in the afternoon. Perfect weather and great fun seeing the kids running about with smiles on their faces. Arlo was great in the running and the sack races, but was hilariously bad at the egg & spoon race (like father like son). He was pretty much chasing the egg as it rolled further and further away, before resorting to holding onto both the egg and the spoon. The parent's race was the 3 legged race, so much hilarity ensued.

After The Strokes led the way in 2001, 2002 saw all sorts of New York chancers trying their luck with various degrees of success (ARE Weapons anyone?). One band who produced something a bit special were Interpol. Internet streaming was becoming more and more common, with NYC's appearance on the NME website causing me to launch a one man denial of service attack. A slow burning piece of melancholy that builds and builds into a wall of shimmering guitars. It's an absolute favourite of mine, but as is often the case with my favourite tracks has never held the same impact whenever I've seen it performed live. It's amazing how often that happens, probably a case of anticipation and hype setting unrealistic expectations.
