Ups and downs
What an up and down day. I know my hormones are all over the shop as my milk kicks in (not to mention what they're doing to my boobs) but today have run so many emotions but except for the ongoing happiness and amazement of MBD, today's was mostly frustration.
MBD continues to do amazingly well and as of today has no wires, tubes or monitors and we were told next step was an MRI scan that should have happened today. By 3pm we hadn't heard anything and I blew up on one of the few unhelpful nurses - all I wanted to know was what was the delay and why did we need to stay in hospital waiting rather than go home. And she didn't help and just made me even more frustrated. The fella was great and insisted I went off for a little break / cry whilst he looked after MBD - I have to admit I came back to our room and sobbed. Only to be found by my dad who had come for a visit. Never has a dad hug been so needed or so welcome. Shortly after that the consultant and docs did their rounds and she was bloody brilliant. Totally got my frustration - which I mostly held in along with the tears - and agreed that we needed the ear, nose and throat guru to confirm what further was needed before we could go home. Apparently the baby MRI slot was taken by an emergency which is fine but as she said if MBDs isn't urgent then why can't we go home and come back in. So she's got the ENT guru to come round first thing tomorrow and agree a plan of action. Fingers crossed it's one where we go home soon but even if he says he needs x more days of monitoring at least we know the situation.
So felt much calmer and better after that helped by a little trip to the costa near the main entrance for tea and cake with mum and dad (I didn't leave the ward yesterday so even a small trip out helped). Before coming here mum and dad had been over to our house to clean, change the bed, Hoover, cut the grass and water the garden as well as bringing back the dirty stuff they took yesterday washed and ironed. Mum is already planning how she can best support me due to c section limitations when I get home (I'm not even allowed to hang out washing) Did I mention they're amazing. (And in case you don't think the fella's parents are also ace his dad went over to the other house to do DIY today and smashed a load of painting). They were thrilled to be allowed to have their first cuddles and hold today - they're almost as smitten as we are. And have had a good evening including a much needed nap. Fingers crossed we have as good a night tonight as we did last where I fed MBD at 11, 2 and 5 and mostly slept in between.
O and just to show MBD is a child genius who not only can drink from a cup but has already done her first painting! A sure start lady was on the unit encouraging play so we did this along with a card version to say ta to mum n dad.
We continue to be touched by all the messages of love and support we're getting - today's included emails from Turkey, US, Mexico, Thailand, Costa Rica, Portugal, Majorca, Germany, Spain plus a great many texts from amazing friends and family. It means such a lot and really helps. I can't wait for them to meet MBD.
