Express yourself
Today started off a little tricky but turned into a great first Fathers' Day.
MBD fed well in the night until 5ish when she'd barely take any then need feeding again an hour later. We were both getting tired and upset so asked the brilliant nurses for some help - was in luck as they were two matronly no nonsense types who showed me how to take charge and get MBD to latch on properly. It's things like this that are the upside to being here - we're learning all the little tricks that we would miss at home or not get straight away. So after their help set the goal for the day of getting her feeds longer and calmer. I went for a little cry and snooze while the fella sat with MBD. Next feed went much better but to be on the safe side i then took myself off to express some milk. I must be one of the few people sat double expressing whilst watching football highlights. But was great. Gave me some peaceful time on my own and the fella some time with MBD and meant I could catch up on the World Cup. Think a draw would have been a fair result.
Then had a good feed and went back to the old ward for me to be discharged. They were very thorough which was great but I was worried MBD would wake up and need us - she didn't! So now have a bag of drugs and a load of paperwork which I hope I remember what to do with. The only tricky will be my staple removal on tues - as we're not sure where we'll be it can't be planned but one way or the other someone will do. UPDATE: Days must be blurring in to one as this actually happened on Saturday and I even wrote about it!!
As time had once again run away with us and our goal for the day set, we decided a trip out to mothercare was too much so put a call in to my parents to swing by there on their way over for more babygrows! They turned up with babygrows, ready meals (the food here isn't great and only I get it), a packed lunch for the fella and a new cake - orange sponge with chocolate drops. Possibly a new favourite. In case I haven't mentioned it before, my parents are awesome.
The feeding continued to go well all day with the fella and I getting a little routine in place - feed (me), wind (him), feed (me), wind (him), nappy change and clothes change when needed (both). We did great apart from some projectile pooing when her nappy was off - luckily these cots are plastic so once we'd stopped laughing the clean up job was fairly painless.
We're really starting to feel like a little family and I can't wait to get her home.
