Tortilla Maker

The best tortillas are those made by hand, but buying them in bulk for for a Father's Day Fiesta requires a less expensive option - the tortilla shop. There are dozens of these hole-in-the-wall spaces throughout Zihuatanejo, and I assume every Mexican town, where they sell a kilo of tortillas for slightly more than $1USD. Everyone has their opinion of which is the best. My palate is not refined enough to discern a significant difference, so I go with what our local friends tell us. This shop was not mentioned by any of them, but was very convenient being on the way to my favorite produce stall (and three doors down from a similar establishment that had no tortillas to sell at the time I stopped in). The masa goes in the top, where the worker is reaching, and piping hot tortillas slide out the bottom, ready to be sold to waiting customers like me.
