Café linguistique
I went along to the meeting of the Café linguistique at the local shopping centre. This is part of a local initiative to foster cultural and linguistic exchanges between those interested in meeting and conversing with people from other nationalities and cultures and speaking different languages. The tables in the local Croissanterie were set out for various languages. This was the English table. I sat at the French table. I met a francophone Indian from Pondicherry who was keen to talk about literature and philosophy and a French lady of African descent who came with her nine year old son. She had recently been elected to the town council and we had a much more down to earth discussion about the politics of the newly elected council and her responsibilities.
