The 13th Spin

As the sun was setting I headed out of the house for a walk. I wanted to stretch my thighs as they were quite stiff after doing a number of squats yesterday, and I also wanted an opportunity to listen to the new Passenger album without any other distractions.

The sunset was quite stunning, displaying its usual array of colours. I tried to get a nice photo of it from the foot bridge that crosses over the highway near my house but couldn't get a good shot with all the houses in the way. As my walk didn't have a particular destination I decided to chase the sunset and see if I could get just a single angle where it wasn't obscured by anything. However as I live in the inner city this is basically an impossible ask, and it wasn't long before the orange in the sky had faded and I hadn't gotten a single photo.

No problem, there are always other photo opportunities to be had and I was quite enjoying my walk. With twilight coming on the path was now empty of people and I got to walk alone with only my thoughts and the sound of Passenger in my ears. Eventually I came across this tree. It's one of those ones found near the banks of rivers with has a canopy of long thin branches that hang vertically down to form a big umbrella shape. I decided to get a photo looking up into those branches with the night sky behind it. On a whim, based on a memory of a photo my brother Jonathan took years ago of a similar scenario, I gave the camera a spin as I took it, much like Jonathan had done with the photo from my memory. I liked it, to me it gives the photo a spooky feel which considering it's Friday the thirteenth (one with a full moon no less) this seemed appropriate.
