The Rook

Dear Diary,

I have never seen a rook before but I was delighted to make the acquaintance of this one at the Upper Lake in Glendalough. Such an amazing beak! They are, of course, a variety of crow, my favorite bird. So intelligent. They live in groups called "rookeries". And the call, Oh My! Very distinctive.

Many disparage the rook but I think one must appreciate their finer qualities and not dwell on the lesser ones...we should do that with people as well!
