Mount Usher Gardens, Ashford

Dear Diary,

Another beautiful day, another beautiful garden. The gardens at Mount Usher are the total opposite of the grand, Italian inspired gardens of Powerscourt and I mush admit, I liked them so much better. Their intimate, natural plantings that have small paths meandering through created a sense of mystery. No straight lines and formal beds here...it is a truly magical garden.

If Powerscourt (I think the name says it all!) is about wealth and prestige, Mount Usher is about embracing Nature and working with her. The designer didn't try to impose his will on the land but gently let it guide the layout. It was so much more relaxing to move through and photograph!
