Diary of an Edinburgher

Gardening!

The sun finally reached us today! JR had a holiday, and we spent the morning doing the front garden - ie cutting back lots ivy and anything else that was deemed ‘rampant’.

The car went for an MOT and it passed! Phew. Last two times it’s cost us about £600 for things ‘needing doing’.

I arranged for the big load of semi dried firewood to be delivered on Friday. That will be some job moving 60 odd nets of wood from the pallet on the pavement into the front bike shed now wood shed and the back wood shed. I may be able to persuade the driver to help me, but he's not employed by the firewood people, so they can't guarantee it.

I then popped down to a blacksmith to fix my gate latch. It hasn’t been latching, as Uncle A pointed out, and I attempted to fix it by bashing it with a hammer, thinking it only needed to move back about 1mm. No. It broke. James the blacksmith was happy to do another one and rang me an hour or so later to come and get it.

Bring it back if it’s not right’ said he…

Well, I went back three times! And nearly went back a fourth time, but with a bit of WD40 on the rusty old latch, it now closes all by itself - so there, Postie!

Now that summer has arrived (though I may have spoken too soon) we went to check out barbecues at Dobbies but the best selection was at B&Q. Didn’t make a decision, as we don’t want a huge big whopping one.

We left Archie outside in his play pen area, and moved his crate outside too. This was the best arrangement. His crate is in the shade all day. I’ll get some sort of waterproof cover for it for other such occasions.

This is Archie helping us in the front garden. He didn't try to bite the flowers. Has he learnt what a garden is?
