Irate turkey
We were putting out food for the smallest deer this evening when several turkeys joined the crowd. And, yes, there was a crowd: ten or twelve deer, three turkeys, two humans and a dog in one little patch of the woods. The deer were getting most of the food, much to the dismay of this irate turkey. Turkeys love the corn kernals, but the deer had "hoovered" them all up.
The smallest deer, aka Rascaletta, now has lots of other deer keeping her company. When she was first orphaned, the other deer wouldn't have anything to do with her. She was this tiny little creature, all by herself in the woods. Then the people who walk in the park started to feed her, and before you knew it, she wasn't alone any more. Apparently the other deer began to see the advantage of having her around. Tonight even the turkeys wanted to be part of the "in crowd".
It is really cold here today. My hands felt like ice cubes by the end of our walk. The rest of me was warm enough though. I was wearing so many layers that I looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy dressed for a hike in the woods. I hope the rest of you northern hemisphere blippers are staying warm. One of the advantages of blipping is that it gets me outside just about every day, and that's a good thing.
That's it from the cold north coast of Ohio where it's only 14 degrees (F) and supposed to be snowing, but isn't yet. We'll see what the morning brings. 'Night!
