wholemeal honey cake

Left Montpellier after breakfast in the hotel. Called with mum to pick up Coquine on the way home. Ended up staying for lunch and a chat. Bonus!

Picked up a few last-minute groceries for our visitors coming tomorrow, including gorgeous minced shoulder of lamb from Patrick the butcher in Nyons.

Spent the evening cooking in preparation for lunch tomorrow. Really enjoyed it.

Early this morning we got some sad news about Wee Oscar. Oscar is my brother-in-law Paddy's cousin's little boy. He was only five years old when he passed away yesterday after a long battle with neuroblastoma. His parents, Stephen and Leona, did so much throughout his life to raise awareness of this terrible illness and to raise money to get Oscar the treatment he needed. There were wristbands, massive charity events organised, celebrity support, and a Twitter account set up by his parents to keep the thousands of followers informed about Oscar's progress. Most of Northern Ireland could tell you about Wee Oscar and his fighting spirit...he was known and loved by so many.

I was devastated to hear the news this morning. Even though it was such a tough, relentless disease, Oscar was such a fighter, you kept expecting him to beat the odds. My heart's breaking for his mum and dad, Stephen and Leona, and Oscar's little sister, Izzie. Sending them all the love and strength in the world. They have been through so much.

And to Wee Oscar, may he rest in peace and know that he has so many people who love him.
