Fool's Gold
May Challenge by AnnieMay and MollyMay - Day 9 - metallic
DDW's Where I Live
In another life I was a geologist, which probably goes some way towards explaining the number of rocks on display in various locations inside and outside our house. This is a rock specimen taken from an underground mine belonging to one of the gold mining companies I worked for. It's mostly the metallic mineral pyrite (iron sulphide, FeS2) also known as fool's gold, and white quartz (SiO2). There's also a very small blob of brassy yellow chalcopyrite (copper iron sulpide, CuFeS2) near the middle of the photo.
