"The Life and Times of Mitchell & Kenyon"

And so to the theatre, with the Minx and some friends. Some lovely friends, actually.

That said, also slightly unnerving friends to go to the theatre with as they are all very well versed in books and performance, whereas I wasn't even sure what it was we were going to see!

As it turned out, it was "The Life and Times of Mitchell & Kenyon". Here's the blurb: "Daragh Carville’s brand new play celebrates the life and times of Lancashire icons Mitchell & Kenyon. Celebrate the spirit of the music hall in a show – no, an extravaganza! - full of songs, laughter and the original films themselves."

I must say, I rather enjoyed the first half, which seemed deliberately camp whilst telling an interesting story, peppered with bits of the old footage. However, as the lights went up for the interval, it seemed not everyone was enjoying it quite so much. Still, after some invigorating discussion over a glass of wine, we returned for the second half, which I also enjoyed although a rather mawkish section rather undermined some of my reasons for liking it.

I suppose in the end, what I enjoyed was learning something interesting in a light-hearted medium, especially with all of the wonderful old footage. If it hadn't been a true story, I don't think I'd have enjoyed it much at all. Mind you, it is disconcerting to enjoy something that everyone else thinks is cobblers!
