Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

A Day of Walking

As lunch time was nearing, we leashed the three pooches and started the journey from the house. Three blocks to the beach and soon the sand was between our toes (well, actually Mr. Fun and the pups had sand between their toes; I had my walking shoes on).

Once we got to the sand we turned north to stroll toward the pier. We rounded a bend and could see further up the beach and that the tide was a bit high. I looked at Mr. Fun and shook my head "nah," thinking that I would not be able to get past the rocks and waves without getting drenched. He assured me we could.

Well you know where this story is going, right?! We were getting ourselves around the out cropping when a wave splashed and rushed in through the rocks and the dogs started hurrying and soon Max had his leash around one of my legs and we were caught in the water.

Both of my shoes filled with ocean. Only one ugly word spilled from my lips. I then managed to laugh and began walking or I should say squishing my way along the sand. Soon all the water had squished out and all that was left was a thoroughly wet feeling on my feet.

Once we arrived at the vicinty of the pier we could see that lots of folks were here for spring break. Families with kids playing in the sand, the surf, and with their dogs. People from California's Central Valley--Fresno, Bakersfield, Visalia--here to celebrate some vacation.

We were looking for a place to purchase a tuna salad sandwich. We had a take home menu from "Skippers" --a local eatery--but when we arrived there we learned that they no longer serve tuna. So we walked on to the next choice and orderd us a couple tuna sandwiches to go and ate them at the base of the pier were several picnic tables are available.

After eating lunch, we turned toward home and decided that we'd like to walk the sand again rather than the sidewalk on Ocean Avenue. The tide seemed to be going out and, hey, my shoes were already saoked so what the heck!

By the time we got the pups back to the house they were exhausted. They lapped lots of water and flopped onto the floor.

Once they had cooled off, we put them in their crates so we could take a walk to one of our favorite places to lookey-lou, the Seniors Thrift Store. We didn't find anything, but the looking was fun. We decided then to walk toward downtown again. Pretty soon we were at the pier again. It was so good to walk.

We had read an article this morning that walking is absolutely the best exercise we can do, especially if we are having fun while doing it because it not only affects our physical bodies, but our mental health as well. We stopped at the market on our way home to get a few groceries and then we walked the two blocks to home to make dinner and enjoy our evening. So that is the report on this good day.

Good night from California's Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun, Chloe, Mitzi, & Max ), aka Carol
