Pole Star Trail at Old Sarum

A mostA interesting couple of hours spent around midnight, up on top of Salisbury's Old Sarum Hillfort. Great to see clear skies, once again, with that pollution finally cleared away, though it turn misty later during my visit.

I know you won't believe me, when I say that the colours have not been altered or changed. The exposure has, by quite a marked degree, though.

A seven and a half minute exposure has rotated the Earth, hence the stars, around the Pole Star. I darkened and added contrast to the sky area.

The bank of the Hillfort, that has come out a browny colour, is lit by the faint ambient streetlamps from Salisbury city itself, a mile away.

The deep ditch had almost no exposure and was brought up from almost black. However, because it was in effect in shadow from the street lamp glow, it is lit very faintly by the crescent moon behind the camera. The Moon reflects the sun and so is the same colour temperature as daylight. So some of the grass has come out green!

There was no way that this was ever going to be subtle. So it ain't!!
