Changing Desks
It's an annual event, but it's the first time I've experienced it. Usually I travel during spring vacation, so I've never been at school for desk moving day. It's a huge hassle.
In Japan, teachers often follow their students through the grades. So the they will teach the same students for their entire junior high school period. This is good if the kids have good teachers, but could be bad if the teachers are bad. We had a problem at my junior high when I arrived 4 years ago. The current third year students had had 2 years of a terrible English teacher so most of the students hated English!
Anyway, the big challenge is getting the third year teachers' desks to the opposite side of the teachers' room. There is also the hassle of the tangled LAN cords, the copious amounts of dust hiding under the desks and then fitting all the desks into their islands with enough space to walk between the grade levels. It was fun!
