Smile, it's a hybrid

Spent today whispering around Somerset, driving a petrol-electric hybrid car mostly on battery power. The car in question was a Mitsubishi, the Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) which is unusual in being both a chunky 4x4 and a hybrid capable of covering 32 miles on pure electric power before the engine cuts in.

The cars were plugged in to recharge while we had lunch at Marco Pierre White's Rudloe Arms at Corsham. The food was unpretentiously excellent but the place was frankly bonkers, absolutely jam-packed with floor-to-ceiling black and white photographs, bizarre chandeliers, eccentric mobiles and weird artefacts. I loved this illuminated adornment on one of the walls. It would have been churlish not to smile back at it.
