A Wrong Turn

I hate to admit that I watched it (many times), but there is a scene in Dumb and Dumber where Harry and Lloyd miss a turn while driving, and instead of ending up in Colorado...end up somewhere WAY north of there.

Well...in a case of a too-many-miles driving frenzy...I missed the turn to Michigan, and ended up in SOUTH DAKOTA!! Right in the middle of a buffalo herd.

Oh, I wish. This was taken in Boone County, Kentucky...about an hour south-west of Cincinnati, Ohio.

At a place named Big Bone Lick State Park. On Beaver Rd. Between the communities of Beaverlick and Rabbit Hash. (Who could make this stuff up?)

Evidently, the animals (including mastodons, wooly mammoths, giant sloths, and buffalo) came to the nearby springs to lick the salt licks. The problem? The area was extremely marshy...the animals would get stuck in the bogs...and then couldn't get out. They have many bones on display, including a giant mastodon skull. Very interesting.

I pulled into my home city (Fenton) at 7:15 p.m...1,650 miles after leaving Florida on Monday morning. Before getting home, I was so tired that I had to pull into a rest area in northern Ohio, and take a half-hour nap.
