Farewell Dunkeld

Today it was back to Glasgow on a cold misty spring day. The daffodils have been at their very best in the grounds of the Dunkeld Estate, and I couldn't leave without capturing this wonderful old oak circled by these gorgeous blooms. Its split trunk has probably been caused by a period of severe frost followed by the trunk being warmed by the sun, so that the outer wood has expanded faster than the inner wood. This tree in its isolated position certainly catches the midday sun in winter. I think this scar adds to its sculptural character - it almost looks like a giant eye is peering out from near the top of the split!
