Kinpurney Hill, Vale of Strathmore
Today's picture was taken in the County of Angus - a 45 minute drive from Dunkeld. Kinpurney Hill is one of the outlying crops of the Sidlaw Hills and has an 18th century restored square tower on the summit (just detectable in the picture). Nearby lies the village of Newtyle with its network of wonderful walks, including the dismantled railway line that runs to the Sidlaws and the Angus Glens. The picture was taken from the Railway Walk. See this website for local detail.
This part of Scotland supports arable farming. Potatoes, soft fruits and all kind of vegetables are grown here in large fertile fields but this year's very cold March undoubtedly will delay planting. Snow lies all around although on the tilled ground it has melted. I liked the geometric shapes of the brown fields and these tones contrasting with the snow and blue patches of sky. Walking here with the snow-covered Sidlaw Hills as a constant backdrop was a great experience and a fitting way to spend the last day of the week's break.
