Bev Road Baths

The Beverley Road Baths were opened in 1905, which makes them Edwardian. There were originally 3 separate pools for men, women and boys (presumably Edwardian girls didn't swim?) and slipper baths. Electro-medical and vapour baths were added at Beverley Road in 1927.

As a teenager I was a member of the Hull Olympic Swimming Training Club; I spent a lot of time at Bev Rd Baths, in fact a lot of time at all of the baths in West Hull. I always thought the Edwardian baths were beautiful with their solid, dark wood changing cubicles, stained glass, floor mosaics and ceramic tiles.

Sadly much of the character has been modernised out of Beverley Road Baths, two pools remain but they have modern changing cubicles and the slipper baths have been converted to a steam room and sauna.

It's a listed building but the interior has been changed, almost beyond recognition, to suit today's swimmers.

A few architectural features remain, this is the commemorative plaque, hidden away in an alcove near the main door.
