Sunset over the delta
How glad I am that on the spur of the moment S suggested we go for a little drive after work! We headed up towards the strange ziggurat-like structure we'd seen on the horizon. When we saw the sunset, we parked, flung ourselves from the car, and rushed towards the river. We were a bit late and only caught the tail end of it, but what a beautiful scene: the broad river, water as smooth as glass reflecting the glowing sky, silhouetted reeds, misty mountains.
At one point we just stood and listened: the faint ripple of waves on the distant shore, the plop of jumping fish, the calls of birds roosting in the rushes, the occasional skein of them flying overhead on their way home. A fisherman in a small boat put-putted past, his wake rippling the still water like silk. Just beautiful. I'll definitely be back here with the tripod, a bit earlier so I have time to find a good position. This photo was taken from the wooden ziggurat -- another observation post, it turned out. I chose it for my blip because it looks a bit exotic somehow. Worth a look in large! My spare blip, taken a few minutes earlier, is here.
In other news, at lunchtime we went out for a walk along the deserted seafront and to our surprise found a chiringuito that was a) open, and b) serving a menu del dia. The guy running it was delighted to see us. The food was as good as you would expect for 10 euros (salad, lentils, hake and chips, bread, wine, coffee all included), i.e. not very, but he gets full marks for effort. He told us he was open all the year round, every day except Thursday (and probably seven days a week in summer). That's dedication!
