Moving Into The Unknown

New York Friends

Tonight on my way out of the office I met Kem. He's a fellow Yankees fan. I was immediately drawn to his generous smile, and of course, the baseball cap. Although strangers, we talked as if we'd known each other for a lifetime. We shared out thoughts about the upcoming season and the 2014 roster, our connections to New York, the fact that we're glad A-Rod is gone and that Derek Jeter will always have class act status, etc. We even talked about faith and the fact that we both believed our paths were meant to cross for some reason. I was so happy to learn about Kem's educational journey and the fact that he's pursuing an education so that he can create the best possible future for his family.

I'm telling you, after many years in higher education, both as a faculty member and administrator - there is one thing that makes it all worth while - and that is meeting someone like Kem. He's working incredibly hard to achieve his goals. And besides all that - he's a cool guy and a true Yankees fan. What more could I ask for?
