Sheep may safely graze

It was dull again today and although there were warnings on the signs by the bridge of snow we are yet to see it here. I did wonder if the Drumochter Pass had a covering as we saw a gritter and a snow plough going up the A9, also a police car sped pass with it's lights on. It's not that often that I've seen any of the services flashing pass and when checking the highland news it looks like blizzards have been causing a problem on the higher ground.

These sheep, Cheviots I think, were tucking into their neeps ( neeps are turnips, apparently what I know as a swede is short for Swedish Turnip ). The famers feed the sheep on neeps during the Winter when grass is in short supply. They seem to like them and must have strong teeth as I find them really hard to cut up even with a sharp knife !

I think there is an electric fence between them and the next field which I assume will be ploughed up revealing the next meal. I think this is what the farmer must have been doing the other night when we drove past the field near the old tractor.

I wonder if the sheep taste differently when fed on neeps as the meat from the ones that feed on seaweed or salt marsh is now a speciality.

Hope you have a good weekend.
