Between fen and mountains

Walking group

I joined the village walking group for the first time today. The walk was not too arduous, around 700 metres of ascent, but it was long. We left at nine and did not return till five. It was someone's birthday so aperitifs were shared out for porterage and I ended up with a rather heavy cake to carry but I am not complaining! We reached around 1300m metres and stopped for an extended lunch despite the snow flurries. Happy birthday was sung in four languages. I had the privilege of seeing one of the two bearded vultures that live in the reserve. It soared quite close and its 2.7 metre wingspan is impressive. It is the only animal that lives almost exclusively on bone. More information and photos here
