A Late Arrival
A grey soulless day up here in the Athens of the North, but brightened by some late flowers including this passiflora bloom not clematis as I said in my first write up. Thank you "chaiselongue" for correcting me
The morning has also been cheered by a visit to the "Ladies who Coffee". In a time bygone when there were few nursery facilities and most women stayed at home with their children, we ladies used to congregate in each other's houses of a morning for a little adult conversation and a cup of coffee while the little darlings socialised with one another. Except it didn't really work that well. The children taught us that "to be seen and not heard" was an obsolete aspiration and while they squabbled over the toys we adults tried in vain to have any sort of joined up conversation. Nevertheless it was a welcome intrusion into a day of constant child driven domesticity.
Nowadays at this certain age, we ladies have all the time in the world to linger over coffee and a rich tea biscuit (la regime you understand!) discussing general issues of a topical nature and of course boasting in a quiet way how clever and advanced are our grandchildren.
Funny that given the choice I would prefer to turn back the clock to those frenetic coffee mornings of yesteryear with my small children!
