Port Tasting
Today was another day filled with family, food, fun and some port wine too. Port wine is typically richer, sweeter, heavier than unfortified wines. It's become an annual tradition at my Uncle Mike's house every Christmas. He has everyone come downstairs to the bar in his house and sample two different years of port wine. It is typically a sweet, red wine, often served as a dessert wine so we usually head down to the bar shortly after dinner is eaten.
It's wall to wall relatives as everyone crowds around the bar. Even with a wide angle lens I couldn't fit everyone in. Once opened, port generally lasts longer than unfortified wine but is still best if consumed within a short period of time. Typically, the older the vintage, the quicker it must be consumed. That is no problem with this group. Everyone was more than willing to sample one glass after another. It is amazing how different the taste of the wine can be from one year to another.
I have not been keeping up with my comments the last two days due to back to back family get-togethers but I do hope to be back on track tomorrow. I need a day of doing nothing to catch up. I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas holiday with their friends and family.
