Beach Bums Bothy
There was a break in the weather again today, it dawned cold overcast, snowlike but as the morning rolled on the day cleared into a lovely fresh winter day.
Here is a shot from the river again, taken just as the beach swings inward towards the village of Langbank. The railway that follows the line of the river sweeps away inland here and the arch is one of those on the bridge that takes the line over the adjacent dual carriageway.
I was surprised to see a well made seat and evidence of a small fire, together with neatly stowed flotsam and jetsam collected from the foreshore and brought here, like hunting trophies. It was not the den of children but of a beachcomber, romantically I imagined a character like Old Ben in the film Local Hero living on his beach surrounded by the treasures carried by the sea and delivered to him. I shot a few frames and retreated, strangely it felt like I was intruding on someone's special place and i moved on, humming the evocative and haunting theme tune from that movie by the amazing Mark Knopfler. Going Home apt for the need to shoot this one today...
There is a strange aura about the shot and a nice depth I thought. I am sure viewed in large the viewer will see more of the detail with just the most tantalising glimpse of our river... For my friend, a little glimpse of home to chase the blues away.
