Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus)

The Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia (Maluku and Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania.

This one, found in our own back yard, really had his eye on the camera, making sure that it did not come any closer. What I really liked about this photo was the unusual display of tail feathers.

Bigger eye.

It is worth mentioning today's unusual date of 11/12/13. Won't see that one again!
