In for the Steal

I've decided that the big white pelicans aren't very nice. First of all...they're real moochers. Since they don't dive like the brown pelicans do...they tend to look for handouts from fisherman. And, since they are such a striking bird...many fishermen oblige.

But, when one does get a fish in their mouth...then the "fun" begins. I saw a group of 25-30 of them attack a brown pelican, and I actually thought they were going to kill it. Under and under they dunked its head...forcing it to cough up the fish.

In this picture, they're after one of their own. If you put it into large, you can see the outline of the fish in the pelicans pouch. He/she successfully downed the fish before any of the thieves got it.

The whites...rude, pushy, overbearing. But...oh so pretty.
