Some Florida History

After church this morning (we were Baptists today), we went to the Gamble plantation. It is an 1840's house, and was open today...complete with costumed guides.

How did women of that day EVER wear those hoop skirts? I asked a couple of them questions about the skirts...hoping they would raise them up to show me their petticoats...but...no such luck.

They also had a small company of Confederate soldiers on the grounds. Doin some marchin...doin some shootin. I thought this guy had a really expressive face...complete with the old fashioned glasses.

On my FLICKR PAGE, I put pictures of the house, a few of the inside, a close-up of this guy, and a few of the hoop-clothed ladies. Quite interesting.

We closed out the night watching the sun go down on the Gulf of Mexico. A blue heron made for a pretty silhouette.
