The Big Performance
Saturday night sleepover with Merrick, our grandson. I woke up to the smell of waffles in the air. (Wait! I had to go cook the waffles.) Grandma dressed Merrick, and he joined me in the kitchen.
I could sense a tension in the air. So acute that I thought I could slice it with a knife. Then...I remembered that it was Merrick's first big starring role in the church's annual CHRISTmas program. I thought a little gentle conversation might help.
"Are you excited to be in your first program?" (No answer.)
"What do you think about being a thespian...you know...an actor?" (Again...no answer.)
"Have you ever heard the saying...Break a leg?" Nothing. Maybe the pressure of carrying the program was greater than I imagined.
Merricks group...being the youngest...was first on stage. The audience laughed, cried, wiped our noses, and clapped. (WAIT!!! That's what Merrick did.)
He liked the running part...as he fancies himself a runner. But, he broke into tears when it was time to sing Happy Birthday to the baby Jesus. Perhaps he thought the group was off-key? I don't know.
Merrick is in green...wearing the duck hat. His dad Doug is behind him, and his friend Landon is wearing the piggie hat.
His other acting emotions are on my Flickr page, along with 2 shots of the country's oldest bass guitar player (my dad.) We are proud of both of them.
