BALL of FUR
The only activity to be seen today were the squirrels. The weather was very strange – 60 degrees & rain for half the day (unusually warm for this time of year), then a cold front & storm moved in with extremely high winds between 60 & 70 mph. The wind sounded like a freight train blowing through the tree tops, and some trees in the area were uprooted. It’s been quite a storm across the entire central & eastern part of the country.
You could tell the squirrels detected a change in the weather – they were running in circles searching for food. I tried getting a picture in all that activity but I was glad when this baby squirrel scampered up the tree when he was frightened by a noise. Maybe he thinks he’ll be safe if he blends in with the branches. He’s like a little fur ball compared to an adult. The tail of a chunky adult squirrel blowing in the wind gives you an idea of the wind today - before the storm. (on Flickr) I can’t imagine how their big leafy nests high in the trees can endure this wind, and I wonder how many of them curl up together in one nest.
