HOUSE FINCH
I had a fantastic Blip Day – so many different kinds of birds were in the yard, besides some very active squirrels. I decided to blip this attractive little House Finch (male) because I’d never seen one before (or even heard of it). This one is possibly a junior because it’s so fluffy and small. Seems it should have a more exciting name – it’s much too pretty for such a plain name. (The female is described as all grey with dull markings.)
Evidently the robin migration must have been going through this area because there were at least a half dozen here at one time. They are usually known as the first bird of spring - I’ve never seen one this late in the year. I also had shots of a downy and a red bellied woodpecker at the suet feeder. There were lots of goldfinches and a few chickadees & nuthatches too. Whew!
Last of all, there’s the ‘bad squirrel’ who thought he was just the right size for the new bird feeder. If he ever catches on the roof comes off to get at the seed, we're in trouble!
