The Market House

Being lazy today, this shot was taken yesterday and is of the Market House in Princes Risborough. Thursday is Market Day in the town but majority of the market is further up the High Street not now in the Market Square. However the WI have a produce stall around the Market House.

The building is C18 and the upper floor was used by the Town Council as the Council Chamber until mid 2001, when due to accessibility problems it was forced to move to alternative premises. In 1994 to celebrate the centenary of the Civic Parish, the Town Council undertook a major refurbishment of the Grade 11 listed Market House, with assistance from English Heritage, Buckinghamshire County Council and Wycombe District Council. I believe that there are plans to spend some £200K on further refurbishments subject to a condition report.

Matthew has visited the clock after complaints it had stopped and the reason it had stopped is that, due to some mis-communication, no-one was winding the clock!
