Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

99p wasted, but £130 saved!

I was sitting up in bed, catching up on all your blips, thinking that I had another half hour before getting up, when the doorbell rang. The two lads with the ladders had arrived to move a light in the kitchen! I thought they were coming today, but hadn't been told of a time. 8am!

I had an appointment at the doctor's at 9:30, but they just finished in time for me to scuttle off up the road. Not still in my dressing gown, I hasten to add...

The old legs are playing up big time. The doc took loads of blood samples for different things. She didn't say, but I reckon it's either osteo-arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, my suspicion is both... But I'm going to the specialist next week, and we'll see what he says.

Soooo, the move to a main door flat with no stairs is not a moment too soon.

Did one of my 'ninja shopping trips' (thanks paulabanks) - in and out of town within the hour. Popped the keys in to get spares cut (why is this so expensive?) popped into a nearby shop for pegs and a light bulb. Keys ready when I came back, bus home.

I bought a washing line, as on a nice day it would be remiss not to put the washing out, as it's so easy now, with an accessible back green.. I searched and searched in the house for the pegs, which I knew we had (and had never used). Of course, when I got back, I found them right away - stuffed in the grog box to stop the bottles rattling. 99p wasted!

JR lured me to TKMaxx this evening for a kitchen bin, on the promise of a drive up Calton Hill afterwards for a blip. We actually got a bin in Hombebase for £19.99! I was so relieved that we didn’t have to pay £150 for one!!

A lovely surprise today - the man arrived with a package. I was trying to think what it was…

Too small to be a ladder.

Wrong shape to be an electric blanket…

And anyway, I hadn’t ordered anything from M&S… had I?

It was a bottle of champagne and champagne truffels!! Thank you C, A & P!! And they will not be sitting in front of the fire for long. This was a desperation blip when JR reneged on her promise of a drive up Calton Hill, having spent too long in TKMaxx. (I lasted 5 minutes).

PS JR has just said, ‘There is something in this room ( the lounge) that I hate. It has to go…’

I had a few guesses, then got the correct answer.

The (new) coffee table is too high. It has to go.

*sigh*
