Bugs bugs concrete
Maybe you've noticed that I've developed an interest in bugs since I came to Japan. I don't really know why though. I didn't dislike bugs before, but I wouldn't have called myself a bug-fan by any means.
Today at elementary school I found some hairy caterpillars with the second grade boys. People fear hem more than other bugs because a few of them give you a nasty itchy sting if it touches you, therefore ALL caterpillars, hairy or not, should be feared.
The little one in the picture is about one inch long, really cute. He was just sitting on this concrete reinforced hillside and didn't budge and I shot some photos of him. What a good model.
The wall he was sitting on is a common thing in Japan. They are everywhere but you don't really notice them. I've been noticing them more later though because A) when I see them all I think about is climbing them and B) the temperature has taken a turn towards the fall and I don't always remember to bring a sweater at night, but these concrete slabs emit so much heat from baking in the sun all day that it's like walking next to a heater. Pretty cool!
