Is This The Way To Amarillo

Well, it is if you go via Lancaster! We went to see Tony Christie at The Grand last night, on what is described as his farewell tour. Which is fair enough when you consider he’s 82, has been doing this for sixty odd years and has been diagnosed with dementia.
But you really wouldn’t have known any of that, watching him in action last night. He looked very fit and was quite comfortable joking with the band and the audience. The only concession, as far as I could see, was a screen with the lyrics on it in front of him. Though he didn’t refer to it very often.
But what a voice! We were treated to a couple of hours (including interval) of what he basically described as the songs he loved to sing, spanning all of his career. And despite teasing us that he wouldn’t do it, the evening just had to finish with the audience joining in on “Amarillo”
Very glad I got to see him before he stops touring for good, and I wish him a long and happy future.
