Spread Your Wings

As the rain forecast for this morning had not arrived by 10.30, we took a chance, left the car by the college and walked along the river into town. Which is where we spotted this cormorant drying its wings. Don’t normally see it this far down the river - it’s usually up by the weir - and quite a few people were stopping to take photos.
After a relaxing coffee and cake, and grabbing some things from M&S, we set off back to the car. Which is when the promised rain arrived. With a vengeance!
I left Mrs C seeking shelter whilst I set off to the car. Interesting fact - when a jacket is described as “showerproof”, it actually means it will keep the rain out for a couple of minutes and then give up completely. Consequently, I was totally soaked by the time I got back to the car. Mrs C not much better when I picked her up as she had to cover a bit of distance in the rain to find a place to shelter where I could also pull in to collect her.
Naturally, the sun came out once we got back home. Which meant I have spent most of the afternoon doing my very own cormorant impression in an attempt to dry everything before we go out tonight…
