Bridge To Better Days
Having flogged all the old bits I took off this guitar (£10 the lot at a car boot sale!) it’s time to carry on with the upgrades. The neck is done, and just waiting to be reattached to the body so now it’s time for the more tricky stuff. First up, the Wilkinson bridge. Naturally, Sods Law dictated that only one of the mounting holes was in the right place so a bit of drilling, jiggling and lining up was required to get everything seated satisfactorily. Seems okay, and the trem has a decent range of movement.
The new bridge has better saddles and a heavier block, all of which should lead to a better tone.
And, with that in mind, the observant/guitar geeks amongst you will notice I have applied copper shielding tape to the control and pickup cavities. For the non-technically minded, the idea is to stop unwanted electrical signals making their way to the output jack, causing a hum - or worse - from the amplifier. Again, I won’t know if it has worked until everything is back together.
Applying the tape was quite fiddly but not too difficult. And the end result is weirdly satisfying…
