Gannet
This morning we walked the circuit at RSPB Troup Head. It is home to the largest mainland gannet colony in Scotland and we saw them in their droves. This one was perching on the cliff path and not at all bothered by me. The cliffs are impressive.
We then went to the three famously picturesque villages of Gardenstown, Crovie and Pennan. Of the three Crovie and Pennan are nearly all second or holiday homes. They are very attractive, especially in my view Crovie, but I prefer staying in Whitehills which feels more like a proper village. Pennan was made famous by the film Local Hero and the phone box there is much photographed. There's a path from Gardenstown to Crovie and we walked between the villages enjoying the beautiful weather. It's so warm and sunny. Even up on the Head there was no wind.
Thank you for all the kind wishes yesterday. We ate very well at the pub. Today is my birthday and we are out again tonight. There are two places to eat in Whitehills so we have options. Cameraman has been diligently scouring second hand book sellers for the volumes I need for my next project/fixation/obsession. I have a lot of useful reading for my birthday gift from him. I'm hoping to put some of it to good use very soon.
