Wild waves at Mangersta

We've had a wild day of weather here on the west coast of Lewis with glorious blue skies and sunshine interrupted by sudden, short, fierce downpours. The one constant is the warm gusty wind from the south. It's always fun to visit Mangersta beach on days like this to watch the whipped up waves, as blipped.

We also attempted a spur-of-the-moment walk to the blow hole at Islivig, but neither of us was dressed for an unexpected cloudburst. We reluctantly turned back, soaked to our underwear, within 10 minutes of leaving the car.

As predicted, my three Scrabble wins at the start of the week have been trounced by five in a row for Mr hazelh. Most of the games have been very close, but somehow he always seems to beat me :-(

Also today in a spare moment, I wrote a blog post about the recent career success of my former PhD student Iris.

I'm about to start my fifth book of the holiday having so far read The every by Dave Eggers (started before we came away), Every one still here by Liadan Ní Chuinn, The truth about the Harry Quebert affair by Joël Dicken, and Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck.

Exercise today: small amount of walking.
