Helsinki
Steinbock_Travels Day 60
Helsinki was still about 180km from our park up on Ruissalo island near Turku. We decided to go there directly, on the motorway. A very easy journey, and we went straight to our over night parking spot at the Kaivopuisto park, on the edge of Helsinki city. A great spot, 26 Euros for 24 hours. We set off on foot to explore the city, most of the catholic cathedral was under wraps, so we went for a look at the beautiful Orthodox Church. The UNESCO Souenmlinna island fortress was about 20 mins by boat, we spent a couple of hours wandering around, really interesting history, park of Russia until around 1880. Half of the island is still a Finnish navy base. Back on the mainland, we watched a mass choir performance on the cathedral stairs with thousands of singers. We then rode the tram around a bit, and did some shopping. After a delicious Vietnamese dinner we took the tram as near to the truck as possible, my legs were very tired.
