Turku
Steinbock_Travels Day 59
Turku is the second largest Urban Area in Finland, and was about 1.5 hours drive, further south. I found a large parking space, at the castle end of town, which was the first place to visit. After, an excellent cappuccino in the caste grounds, we purchased the tickets and began the exploration. It was huge and took us almost 3 hours to get through, a very interesting history of this part of Finland since 1300’s.
We didn’t go to the maritime museum, time was getting a bit short, but had a really good walk around the town, and up to the cathedral. One highlight was the market hall, a great mixture of restaurants and market stalls.
There was a little ferry we could take back down the river, to the castle, then a 10 min walk to the truck. We did yeast o spend the night in the ferry car park, so I found a Park4night on a little island about 6km away. We lucked out again, a fab spot right next to the water, with a ringside seat to watch the ferries leaving through the narrow channel bound for Stockholm. We cooked a leftover kind of meal, watched the ferries go out, another superb sunset, and then had a walk around some of the beautiful wooden summer villas along the shore path
