Early One Morning

Not a jellyfish in sight and a calm clear sea at high tide was a wonderful start to the day. There were many ladies eager to strip down to bathing costumes to sample the delights of cold water swimming if only to cool off.

I had time to rinse out my beach clobber and hang it out to dry in the sunshine  before meeting up with Nancy, recently relocated to Edinburgh from Orkney. Nancy and I have a shared experience of the Stromness Harbour swim back in 2023.  We had a lovely couple of hours catching up on news and thinking about future Porty swims together.

Later I had a long postponed coffee with Blipper Marchmont sitting in the busyness of Lister Square where spotting celebrities from the adjacent Book Festival is a top occupation. I was interested to note that Marchmont was unabashed carrying a copy Nicola Sturgeon’s new book with no brown paper covering. She also had one by Kirsty Wark who was one of the celebrities we spotted sitting near us.

It really did feel as though we were abroad in some continental market square as we sat in the sunshine. It’s been a lucky week weather wise for Fringe visitors and us residents too.
