Flowery Entrance

Opening the door onto the patio feels like walking into the hot house at the Botanics. It’s 28° C.  That’s at least 10° above the average temperature for the middle of August. Some of the Edinburgh schools went back for the beginning of term today- I bet the teachers are not happy -no chance to top up their tan in double maths!

I decided to venture south of Quartermile today to shop in leafy Morningside, thereby missing the rammy of visitors doing the sights. Waitrose was due a visit. It used to be a Safeway store  during the time  we lived in the old castle and  did our shopping there. Now it’s gone all up market and I rarely visit. I stocked up on fruit which I should say didn’t seem so polished and attractive as it does in the M&S in town , but it was a chance to rub shoulders with the great and good burghers of the district and replenish my sources of vitamin C.

The good thing about outdoor life is that I am not confronted with dust and dirt  within the house , although I did clean the bathrooms this morning and swept some of the Porty sand off the floors - it amazing how much sand is deposited in this house from the clobber I bring back from the beach.

I am sitting at the moment just within the house at the entrance to the patio. It’s cool and in the shade. There is a pesky person somewhere on the Meadows beating out a constant rhythm on some drum or other annoying instrument and also some chanting, both of which were  beginning to annoy me, and so I discarded my hearing aids and I have wonderful silence. I suppose that counts as a plus.
