CHAOS
It's Mono Monday and the theme is Chaos.

Invasive Zebra Mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) remains washed up along the shore of Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. The species originates from the lakes of southern Russia and Ukraine, but has been accidentally introduced to numerous other areas and has become an invasive species in many countries worldwide.

They are filter feeders removing algae, etc. from the water column and interfering with the normal life cycle of fishes which also depend on aquatic algae and invertebrates consumed by the mussels. Not much larger than a thumbnail, they attach to the substrate and each mussel can filter a liter of water per day. They attach themselves in high densities as much as several hundred per sq. ft. of area. They can blanket an entire lake bottom.

I can't help but think that this photo would make a world-class, mind-blowing jigsaw puzzel. Anyone agree?
